Wedding season is upon us again... (hey my own anniversary is in 3 weeks... how time flies!)

Leanne Marshall has put some amazing dresses on sample sale-- a steal if you are looking for a wedding dress because we know how crazy those prices run!

All pictures from Leanimal's Etsy shop

I adore her designs-- seriously, before her, I could never image there are so many ways to pleat and ruffle!

framed paper goods

How awesome are these letterpressed cards from Kirtland House? I bought them to frame as a set.

more bunnies

As you know, we want to get a companion for our bunny Pequito. Since we're moving, it's the perfect time as he will not be as territorial. I've been keeping an eye on Pet Gantry's website, they get lots of holland lops and netherland dwarfs in regularly. They got a new batch of netherland dwarfs today, and although we thinking of getting another holland lop, these are pretty heart-wrenchingly adorable!!

bunnies on the mind

When we move, we plan to build a bunny condo for pequito.

With the extra space, we've been seriously considering getting a playmate for pequito as well. If we do, I definitely want to get another holland lop, they're just the cuddliest and most interactive, in my opinion. I've been looking at local options here in Singapore, and reading up a little about coat colors, and boy, is there a mind-boggling array of colour options (kind of cool how bunny coat colors occur, from the point of view of a geneticist).

Because pequito is all black, I think it would be kinda awesome to get an all white bun. Wondering if we might be able to find a blue-eyed white here?

Sorry to be so politically incorrect and picking buns based on cuteness and coat colour! But, to be sure, we love and cuddle pequito so much because he's just so freaking adorable!!

Dawn of the boy band

Chanced upon Take That's concert tour on TV earlier today, clicked in right in the middle of "Never Forget". Oh man, has it been 15 years since I was a screaming teenager nuts for Mark Owen?

"Never forget where you're coming from
Never pretend that it's all real
Someday soon this will all be someone else's dream

We've come so far and we've reached so high
And we've looked each day and night in the eye
And we're still so young and we hope for more
But remember this
We're not invincible, we're not invincible"

Totally bopped along singing at the top of my lungs!

Amazing lofts for the lucky few

Having recently bought our first place, I've been doing lots of research on Singapore housing. Singapore has a reputation for being rather authoritarian and big government, but I must say this might have its perks with regards to housing. Singapore public housing mainly takes the form of towering blocks of flats (HBD, or Housing Development Board flats), is built and sold by the government, and a large majority of our population live in these flats.

First, as a caveat, property prices have been skyrocketing, so these flats are not as affordable as they were, say 15 years ago. But, still, these probably run about half to a third of the price compared to an identical property built by a private developer. Also, not all flats are as pretty as these. All that aside however, it's still pretty astonishing that this is government housing!

All images are from

As icing on the cake, these will be built in a really great location very near downtown. However, there is a very long queue, including balloting and lottery, for these flats. Apparently the odds of getting one are pretty miniscule. (Not to mention, this being government housing, there are many rules as to who is eligible to buy one, e.g. no foreigners, no singles under 35, and income ceilings, etc).

On a side note, the walls in those are such a lovely shade of grey! I've also been contemplating using shades of grey for my new home. Perhaps an icy blue-grey for the window drapings for the living room, like this top?

the straw that broke the camel's back

While perusing home decor blogs, I came across decor8's fresh recent take on that age old controversy-- copying in craft and design. Her guest, Erika, of Delphine fine stationery and design, describes that she is recently seeing more and more customers asking her to replicate designs from other designers. She wonders if this may perhaps be due to the proliferation of DIY and inspiration boards, leading customers (and many designers) to feel like the DIY culture is is a free for all... Of course, this hot button topic has generated a million billion comments, many of which are very well thought out and crafted, do take a read if you are interested!

It is not surprising that this topic brings so many comments out of the woodwork, it is one that designers and crafters constantly struggle with. I commented on this a while back, as I had personally encountered this myself when I was still on Etsy. I never talked about this because Etsy had put a gag order on me not to discuss my situation (and back then, Etsy was the only place I was selling, and I wasn't about to risk offending the powers that be). But now, since I no longer sell on Etsy, and the other seller in question has also stopped selling for a long time, I thought I would dig up some old pictures I had stored and let you judge for yourself.

In October/November last year, two sellers on Etsy messaged me to tell me about a shop that was selling items very similar to mine-- similar enough that they would actually both feel compelled to write to me (and one of the sellers who messaged me was a stranger at the time). Here were half the items in her shop, side by side with several of my bestselling items:

Besides this, her shop banner was the same colors as mine (plum and pink), and her shop policies and seller profile were identical in structure and very similar in wording. Hence, I filled out Etsy's design complaint form, and waited.

Etsy's response to me waxed lyrical about artists being inspired from generations of artists past, citing Cezanne inspiring Picasso. They also said that Etsy simply makes it easier to discover similar items on Etsy (i.e. this is just a coincidence). And they said they will not ask the seller to remove the offending items

Anyways, one good thing that came of of this is that it really woke me up to the cold reality that Etsy is not on my side. I had been buying ads, and pushing PR, all linking back to my Etsy shop, but really, in the end, that was putting all my eggs in a basket that was not mine. If I wanted to protect my business and really make sure all my efforts were maximized, I had to venture out on my own. Realising this pushed me, a month later, to hire Aeolidia to make pequitobun a website. And, I'm so glad I did!

Resting up and decorating

I'm home with tonsilitis, and although I should be working on my paper, I just have so little energy for anything.... so, I decided it was time to revamp this blog! I'm so bad with html, but I don't update regularly enough to hire someone to design the blog layout. So, I just tweaked a few things and added a new header. Perhaps if I discipline myself to write more, I can justify investing more time, energy and money into the blog. I hope! In any case having a nice blog layout does make me want to write more. The amazing thing is, this blog is a Google page rank 3, same as my website, even though I get about 10 times more traffic to my website than here. Go figure!(Edit: I realised that in my long blog absence, my Page Rank has fallen to 2! It all makes sense now)

I was also making a little collage of press for my website, and I'm just amazed at how much pequitobun has grown since I launched my website in 2008. This month would make two years since the website has been up and running. I'm so grateful to my customers and everyone who has supported in this kind of crazy separate path I have been running! Really, I can't thank you all enough.

We're almost ready to move into our new place (countdown to April 16!!), and I've been daydreaming and collecting inspirations for home decorating. Reading lots of decor8, Apartment Therapy, desire to inspire, etc.

My big big problem is, I love all things vintage and old, but this being Singapore, most of the apartments are brand spanking new, glass and modern types. There are lovely conservation shophouses, but they are mostly completely out of our budget.

So, I've been reading these design blogs and trying to think of ways to "oldify" my new cookie cutter apartment. One of the things I'm definitely going to be doing is wallpaper! I've requested a bunch of samples from Graham and Brown, and am currently leaning towards these styles:

For the living room:
For the bedroom:
For the kitchen (maybe):
(All wallpaper images above from Graham and Brown)

The other thing we need is a bed. I'm looking for a storage bed like this one from West Elm:

But they don't ship internationally, and I'm having very little success finding an affordable, well designed bed locally. Does anyone know a good creative and affordable furniture store in Singapore?

I've never done a large jewellery giveaway before, but when Redbook magazine asked if I was interested, I couldn't say no, since they are such a large national publication and I thought it would be really good publicity. So, this month, you can enter to win five $300 gift certificates for use storewide on!

home decorating

We're moving again soon (for the 7th time in 6 years!!) but hopefully this will be the last time for a long, long time... the prospect of having a semi-permanent place to decorate and settle in is making me giddy with nesting happiness! Since it's a little early to be buying furniture pieces, i've been trying to satisfy my urges to decorate by buying lots of home decor pieces, reading design blogs, and playing with floorplans on

Yesterday, a big bunch of my new purchases arrived... my favourite piece, a framed mirror, arrived a little beat up (see sprinkling of broken bits next to it in the picture, the mirror part also detached) but I LOVE IT!!!! And my new typewriter is so pretty. It types in cursive!!

Working off and on on jewellery pieces for spring. I have a magazine feature coming up, and so am trying to get more new pieces in soon, but time, oh time, there is not enough of it.

pequitobun on the Urban Outfitters blog!!

I know, I've been AWOL for so long, I need to do some sort of walk of shame.

I've had a couple of big changes in 2009 and pequitobun has had to take a back seat to my postdoc duties, pet moving, settling in, homebuying, etc.

Just popping to share something so exciting... pequitobun jewelry was featured on the Urban Outfitters blog this week!!!! I used to spend SO MUCH time in that store (and my little sister lives for it), so it's quite a feather in my cap =).

The aphrodite necklace that Kara is wearing is still available in the store!

Happy Chinese New Year!!! It's been sweet to be back in Singapore for the festivities. It just feels totally different when the whole country takes 4 days off to celebrate.

Hoping to get a whole day to make some new designs this long weekend... wonder if I'll get to it? so inspired and i miss it all!!
