pequitobun on Gossip Girl, again!

I've been so caught up with everything, I hadn't yet blogged about our most recent Gossip Girl feature! As you might remember, our preppy necklace was featured on Jenny early on last season. In the season finale "The Goodbye", Gossip Girl wardrobe designers again pick pequitobun jewelry, adorning Jenny in our Crown Jewels necklace in the final ball scene!

I apologise for the poor quality of the video, I literally recorded it off my computer screen...haha... anyways, I love Taylor's entire ensemble, and how the necklace just gives it a touch of edgy colour.

See the Crown Jewels here!

Anyways, I had sent the Gossip Girl wardrobe folks a bunch of samples, but they kept a couple for a longer time, one of which was Crown Jewels. I know they probably tried on a couple on the actresses, because they came back unclasped. Want to know which others they liked? :

back from the dead!

i'm back!! It's been a loooooong time, but wait, I have good reason! In the past few months, I defended my PhD dissertation, got married, holidayed in Key West, Miami, Hawaii and Bali (hadn't had a proper holiday in 6 years!), and did a transcontinental move 10,000 miles away from Cambridge, MA to sunny Singapore. The picture above is pequito lying in front of our fireplace in our empty old house in Cambridge...

Yep, pequitobun is now located in Singapore! It took us a while to get settled in (bank accounts, home stuff, pequito stuff etc) but we're finally all unpacked. Yesterday, I finally had a little area organized as my workspace for the jewellery (adjusting to spelling it this way again).

We packed just 4 suitcases and 4 boxes (yep, that was our whole life's stuff), of which already one entire suitcase was my jewellery supplies, which meant that I had to leave alot of shipping and organizational stuff behind, and so had to buy new ones... I bought lots of velvet lined boxes for my gemstones, and plastic storage for the other stuff. They are sitting stacked in the tall dresser on the left. I'm now so organized! Very pleased.

I'm also now finally ready to ship stuff again. (See weighing scale on top of the dresser... thanks, Mum!) Shipping from Singapore was surprisingly cheap. After I shipped a couple of packages, I realized that I am able to lower my international shipping price to US$4.95!! That's the price for domestic priority mail. Packaging was a big problem at first, however. I thought I would be able to easily find cheap and beautiful packaging boxes here, but in fact I ended up having to order them from the US... oh well, I loved my old boxes anyways =).

In between reading up for my new job, which I start next week, I hit up a local boutique recommended to me by one of my old customers to see if they might be interested in stocking pequitobun. I went there sight unseen since it was so recommended, but when I got there for the meeting, wow, it was gorgeous and perfect for pequitobun!

Look at our logos!

Trixilini, located in Millenia Walk, is feminine, romantic and bright. Not only is their clothing luxurious and unique, they also stock an amazing array of handmade jewellery. I'm really glad to have found such a perfect boutique for pequitobun (and glad they liked us too!)

Do visit the store to take a look at my pieces up close, if you live in Singapore!

Last but not least, a few new updates on the website. Working on Fall, I promise!!

pequitobun Summer '09 Collection is here!

Summer 2009 collection is here!

2 weeks earlier than I had planned, but I couldn't wait to share!! Also, I thought it made sense to launch it earlier so purchases can arrive in time for Mothers' Day if needed. Made during the six weeks I was working on my dissertation, I wanted everything to be different from other pieces I have made, and I love every single one! They are actually two slightly different collections.

The first, GLAM, is more edgy and rock in absolutely versatile, go-with-everything colors- sterling silver or gold-filled with silvery pyrite, cloudy quartz, topaz, gunmetal and lipstick red, with a touch of delicateness.

The second, Exotica, is exactly that, something different, luxurious, bright and exotic. You can wear them to brighten up a boring outfit, or you can just prance around in them naked and pose like a supermodel (yes, i know you do that!!).

As usual, everything is made by me with my two hands, with the finest materials, and most are one of a kind. No factories, no manufacturing, just me, pliers, gemstones and old forgotten vintage things.

Also, I just got a bunch of tiny pequitobun 14K gold-filled tags to add my signature to each necklace or bracelet (see below), so every necklace or bracelet piece ordered from now on will be tagged with the signature on them before they ship!

xx

pequitobun tags are here!

I got the tags I ordered! And they are beautiful!!

Most necklace and bracelet orders on pequitobun will now be tagged with pequitobun's logo (even the older designs, I'll add the tags before they ship!)

pequitobun jewelry tags

I have been thinking for awhile about creating jewelry tags for my jewelry, as a step towards creating pieces that can be recognised as "pequitobun". I put it off because it required a considerable investment in creating the template for the tags and the entire labelling system, but recently, I decided to take the plunge! I hope this will create more value for my customers and make the pieces more collectible. I also think it will just make the brand more professional overall.

Here is how they will look:

It will probably take about a month for the custom tag system to be set up, but I'm hoping that I will be able to add them to all future necklace orders after mid-May or so!

pequitobun on Gossip Girl!!!!!

Images belong to the CW

pequitobun was on Gossip Girl tonight!!! The episode is "The Grandfather", and the necklace above and below is the necklace worn on the fabulously fashionable Taylor Momsen playing Jenny Humphrey in the scene with Dan and Vanessa after they come back from football with the Archibalds. It is one of a kind and still with the wardrobe department at Gossip Girl, but will come on sale soon at pequitobun! It is made with a vintage sterling silver bow pin and large green amethyst gemstones, on sterling silver chain. I love bows, and there are many more designs with bows on pequitobun's website! pequitobun has a few more jewelry pieces at the wardrobe department at Gossip Girl, so hopefully they might use other pieces in future...

Post Gossip Girl edit: I wrote the above piece in great excitement while watching Gossip Girl, so I just wanted to add a bit to say that I'm really thrilled about this!! If anyone has TiVo and knows a way to get stills from the scene, please let me know!! =)

P.P.S. I added stills!!! These are pretty blurry, but you can see the twinkle on the necklace!!

something to look forward to...

My guy just reminded me that if all goes well and we both pass our dissertation defense in early May (oh my god that is going to be the bestest feeling in the world!! but not counting my chickens yet), we're both going to be without a salary for May-June. Ok, a graduate student salary is not much in the first place, but between the two of us it is quite alot of ground to make up, and we still need to pay our rent and have a wedding.

So, I was like, don't worry, i'll make lots of jewelry, and he gave me a look like, yah, since when have you made money from jewelry... which is kinda true since I buy wayy to much supplies and I currently have alot of overhead from my advertising and PR efforts, but I really think that if I stopped buying supplies and tripled my design output I could probably at least do enough to pay the rent!

So, I'm kind of excited now, designing really has been something I do when I needed to take a break from work, or when I feel a burst of inspiration. I haven't yet tried to do it full time, and I honestly don't know if I will have a chance to try it in future. I love science and I think I want to do it seriously for the rest of my life, but I feel like a month or two would be a really nice time for me to try something else seriously, give it my all, and see how it goes.

Pretty exciting, and one more thing to look forward to!! I can't wait for May.

Anna Sui Spring/Summer 2009 Ad Campaign

I love how an ad campaign can bring together and communicate the vision of the designer. I wish I had the time and money to shoot another one, the last lookbook I did was a blast!

I'm really digging the vibe of this image from Anna Sui's Spring/Summer 2009 campaign, and that dress is so lovely. it's really inspiring me to kick it up a little color-wise, for my summer collection.

american idol makes me cry

i don't normally watch american idol, but i got addicted early this season and i've been watching it every week. for some reason i cry every episode, just watching people pursue and realise their dreams makes me insanely touched. i know, it's ridiculous. i don't know what's wrong with me.

anyways, this season my absolute favourite is adam lambert. he's been on the cast of wicked for a few years, and i think he finally got his big break. he's mesmerizing!

btw paula is slightly crazy, but she's adorable anyways!
