Like everyone else, I've been utterly captivated by the Olympics.
I've always been an athlete and was the youngest player on my home country's national volleyball team before I decided to leave and come to the US for my studies. Of course, we were never even close to good enough for the Olympics =), but I know the amount of blood, sweat and tears every Olympian has invested into their training. Even though there are those who think sports is just "games" and a trivial distraction from the real issues in the world, I savour every minute of it that I can catch.
I love the action, of course. Volleyball, gymnastics, diving, weightlifting... Have you seen weightlifting? It is heart-stirring. But I love even more the looks of pride and joy on the coaches' and athletes' faces when they perform beyond their expectations. I can tear up all day watching medal ceremonies. It really is so good for the human soul. =)
On a kind of unrelated note, I was reading about Ricky Rubio, the amazing Spanish basketball teenager who some consider to be the best player in the world outside of the NBA. When I saw his picture, all I wanted to do was to pluck his eyebrows:
Other than the Olympics, I've been busy with work, work, work these past few weeks.
I recently did a photoshoot with a local Boston glossy, and might be a featured designer for their Fall fashion issue, I'm so excited!
Will be trying to wrap up a bunch of work this weekend and the coming week in preparation for my friend's bridal shower and bachelorette party next weekend in NYC! I am making the jewelry for her and all the other bridesmaids, so that will be my after-work task for this week. I have a design idea that will be pretty and quite customisable, so I am hoping that the other girls like it. After that is done, I am really looking forward to unwinding next weekend!
I haven't had a holiday all summer, and so I'm going to treat this as my little summer weekend getaway. With Per Se and Bungalow 8 on the itinerary, this is probably the swankiest weekend I will have in my entire life unless someday Scarlett Johansson wears my jewelry and I become a celebrity designer. heehee.
Ok, got to wrap up work so I can go back home in time to see Phelps clinch his 8th medal. That guy is truly a freak of nature.
